A summary of the chemical shifts of the 1H proton and 13C NMR spectra of 3-methylbutan-1-ol (3-methyl-1-butanol)

(5) 3-methylbutan-1-ol, 3-methyl-1-butanol, a branched primary alcohol

isomer of C5H12O, structural formula of 3-methylbutan-1-ol (3-methyl-1-butanol) , isomers of C5H12O structural formula alcohols and ether structure and naming (c) doc b

Number of low resolution NMR chemical shift δ signal peaks: 5 1H and 4 13C

For the NMR spectra of 3-methylbutan-1-ol (3-methyl-1-butanol), reading the formula of from left to right and applying the simplified n+1 rule for chemical shift splitting due to immediately adjacent non-equivalent protons:

1H NMR integrated ratio of peaks: 6 : 1 : 2 : 2 : 1 (for equivalent protons)

1H NMR signals ppm: 0.92 (doublet), 1.66 (nonet), 1.49 (quartet), 3.67 (triplet, ignoring OH proton), 1.57 (singlet)  (in CDCl3), very complex overlap for C2 and C3 protons.

The -OH proton peak is reduced/removed if D2O is added to the CDCl3 solution of 3-methylbutan-1-ol (3-methyl-1-butanol), hence the -OH proton can be distinguished from all the other C-H protons.

13C NMR signals ppm: 22.68, 24.83, 41.75, 60.97 (in CDCl3)
